Some difficult to understand scriptures

The following passages are often misinterpreted

I have bracketed my interpretation of these following passages the way I believe they should be read, therefore they may or may not be accurate.

This below passage of scripture is one where the doctrine of the Trinity was added to the original scriptures.  The underlined words represent the addition to scripture.  They are not part of the original scriptures.  If we look at the context of the passage, we should see that it is referring to Jesus the Christ and those born of God - [but not concerning the Father: the Word or the Holy Ghost].

I Jn 5:1-13
1    Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2    By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3    For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4    For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5    Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6    This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7    For there are three that bear record
in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8    And there are three that bear witness in earth
, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

7    For there are three that bear record, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

This is how this verse was original written, before the Trinitarian doctrine was added.  It basically summerizes as a record the statement in verse 6 before, which explained how Jesus was born of the flesh but not of the blood of man.  The spirit of truth was upon him to bear witness, that he is the Son of God.

The question is; what do the words "
water", "blood", and "Spirit" refer to?  The answer lies in the below verses.

John 3:5-6
5    Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water
[flesh] and of the Spirit [spirit], he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6    That which is born of the
flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

As it says above: flesh [the physical body] is it's own thing; and spirit [the gift of spirit] is it's own thing - they can't be mixed - (or as an alalogy - oil and water don't mix).  Likewise "flesh" and "spirit" are separate things, and therefore need to be treated as such.   Jesus was saying that we first have to be born of flesh [in the womb] before we can be born of spirit.

Heb 2:14-16
14    Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of
flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same [the flesh part only - his blood line was from God only - (he had no earthly father)]; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
15    And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
16    For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham
[the flesh].

9    If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10    He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11    And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12    He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13    These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1 Cor 15:20-28
20    But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21    For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22    For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23    But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
24    Then cometh the end, when he
[Christ] shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he [Christ] shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25    For he
[Christ] must reign, till he [Christ] hath put all enemies under his [Christ's] feet.
26    The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27    For he
[God] hath put all things under his [Christ's] feet. But when he [God] saith, all things are put under him [Christ], it is manifest that he [God] is excepted, which did put all things under him [Christ].
28    And when all things shall be subdued unto him
[Christ], then shall the Son also himself [Christ] be subject unto him [God] that put all things under him [Christ], that God may be all in all.

The above passage may appear at first to be interpretable in more than one way.   However scripture is not designed to be interpreted in this manner.  The first verse opens the interpretation.  However the word "he" by careful observation does not always refer to "Christ", but rather sometimes refers to "God".  Below I have given a more easily understood wording of my interpretation with some expansion of the context.

1 Cor 15:20-28 [My interpretation]
20    Christ has now been raised from death, and is the first man to receive a spiritual and incorruptible body and mind.
21    Because of Adam, all mankind was doomed to die, but those who are in Christ will be given new  a new body and mind at his appearing.
22    Because of the fall of mankind, all mankind
(even the animals) are subjected to physical death. However all those who are of Christ [believers of the past and true Christians today] will be given a new body and which is not corruptible (unlike our present bodies - which eventually decompose back to where they came from - the dust of the earth).
23    Christ was the first to be resurrected from the dead, At Christ's return will the rest of us be made alive, or incorruptible
[that is all believers - old testament and new - (the rest of the world has a different fate in store for them)].
24     At the time of the END, Christ will have already gathered to himself
(all true Christians and believers from the past).  This all together constitutes the kingdom, which will be delivered to God [the creator of all creation and the father of Christ our savior]. Then Christ will destroy all worldly constitutions by his second appearance unto the world - in judgement over the wicked [all nations will crumble at his feet].
25    Then Christ will reign as king over all the world, until all evil [corruption] is destroyed.
26    The last evil
[corruption] being physical death itself.
27    God gave all power over heaven and earth to his son, Jesus Christ.   However God himself is not subjected under his own sons power.  Because it was God himself who gave his son this power.
28    Therefore when God gave his son power over all things above and below into his sons hand, then will his son also himself be subjected unto God his only father, who him gave his son this power over and above all things except his own father.  That in the end God will be known as who he really is - The all supreme God both inside and out.  Below him in authority is his son, and below his son are the saints.   All others were destroyed forevermore from the presence of the saints, the son or the father.  In other words they will be as though they had never been born - they will cease to exist as anything, not even a memory of them will remain.  This will be their final punishment from God. The only place which lies outside of Gods presence is a place of non-existence.

II Th 2:1-13
1    Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2    That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3    Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4    Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5    Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6    And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7    For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8    And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9    Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10    And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11    And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12    That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
13    But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

The above passage has been widely misinterpreted due to a misreading of the context.   See below for my interpretation as best as I have learned it.

II Th 2:1-13 [My interpretation]
1    We implore you and all brothers in Christ, by the appearance of Christ and our gathering together unto him.
2    That you are not frightened by any source which gives a warning, that the day of Christ's appearance is now here.
3    Don't let anyone or anything deceive you into believing this: because first will come the rapture of the church, then the antichrist will be revealed.
4    The antichrist will rise above all other religions and present himself to the world as the true God.
5    Remember before when I told you these things.
6    And now you know the power
[the church] which is holding the antichrist at bay, to let him [the antichrist] be revealed in his own given time.
7    For wickedness has already been corrupting the world,  yet, the power
[the church] which keeps him at bay will do so until the rapture of the church.
8    Then the antichrist will be revealed, and be destroyed by Christ during his second coming to earth
[which follows sometime after the rapture].
9    The antichrist by the power of the devil, will deceive the world with false miracles and promises.
10    Those that believe him perish because they didn't believe the words of truth, which could have saved them.
11    Because because of this, God will allow these unrighteous ones to believe the lie that the antichrist will present to them.
12    This will bring about their destruction, because they believed this lie and loved wickedness, and yet knew not the truth.
13    But we thank God brothers in Christ because he chose us in the beginning to salvation by the way of truth.

This below passage is written to the Jews who still held on to the old ways of the law, even after being taught the new way in Christ.  So Paul was attempting to help remove them from the yoke of bondage by the law.

Heb 6:1-6
1    Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2    Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3    And this will we do, if God permit.
4    For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened
[by the promise of Christ], and have tasted of the heavenly gift [the gift of spirit], and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost [all the Jews who were born again - (Christians)],
5    And have tasted the good word of God
[the new hope in Christ], and the powers of the world to come [eternal life],
6    If they shall fall away
[fall from the faith], to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Verses 1 through 3 makes the statement which says for them [the Jews which still desired the law to guide them] to leave the past behind.  Verses 4 through 6 explain why, and this is where the word gets misunderstood.  Once one is born again, it is a permanent matter - one could not be reborn of the spirit if they left the faith and returned later to receive it back -  making the sacrifice Jesus made an act of foolishness.  The reason they believed the way they did was because of old testement law regarding "backsliding" [which some Christians today still believe will remove their salvation].  One can't get saved one minute, and the next minute lose their salvation.  One can lose their fellowship [by walking contrary to his word] with God but not their sonship [if they are true Christians - (born again)].  These Jews were forgetting that Jesus Christ paid the price once and for all.

Hosea 11:7
7    And my people are bent to
backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High [God], none at all would exalt him [give God the glory].

Jer 3:22
22    Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your
backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

These above verses concern Israel, and not the church of God.

These are not all of the scriptures which are often misunderstood, but just a few which are popular with traditional teachings.
